Baby, It's Cold Outside

Blame it on the cooler weather in Dallas (FINALLY!), but I've been a woman obsessed with sweaters and boots...the comfier, the better.

These cowlneck sweaters from Gap are fabulous with a capital F. Soft, chic, and classic. I plan on living in these sweaters during the next few months. Wear it with jeans, wear it with leggings like I did last night on our anniversary date, etc.

I've been on the hunt for great flat brown boots for the longest time, and I finally found them at Nordstrom. I love the cognac color...I love the slightly hidden wedge heel (good for us shorties!)...I especially love how comfortable they are! Along with the Gap sweaters previously mentioned, I will be wearing these boots to death this winter!

Happy 6 Month Anniversary!

Our Mexico City trip was technically Hubby's present to me for our 6 month anniversary trip so I was especially touched when Hubby came home with beautiful roses. Don't even get me started on the beyond sweet card that he left for me before he went to work...such a thoughtful and loving Hubby I have. Even though Hubby's been swamped at work, he had time to take me out for a lovely dinner at Royal Thai, a restaurant that I've been wanting to try for the longest time.

Tom Yahm Goong: tart and spicy shrimp soup with lemongrass, mushrooms, kaffir lime leaves, tomato & chili paste

Spicy Catfish: crispy fried catfish fillet sauteed with red curry sauce & topped with crispy basil leaves.

Pad Bai Grapow: wok-tossed sliced steak with fresh basil, baby corn, mushrooms, bell peppers, garlic & jalapeno peppers.

Green tea ice cream= crack. Perfect ending to a delicious meal.

I love my Hubby very much. I'm very excited for all the anniversaries we have in store for us :-).

Outfit: Gap cowl neck sweater, Banana Republic leggings, white Gap tank (worn underneath), J.Crew earrings, Steve Madden boots, and Chanel bag (details to come!)

*Disclaimer: Yep, it's 11/16, and we've got our Xmas decorations up. Don't hate. Ho, ho, ho!

Thanksgiving #1

With everyone's busy schedules during the holidays, Hubby's mom decided to do an early Thanksgiving this year. Fine by us.

My plate: turkey, ham, broccoli cheese rice casserole, corn, stuffing, green bean casserole, and roll. YUM.

Well, 1 Thanksgiving down, 4 more to go...

OU vs. A&M

Today was our 2009 season debut in Norman. Our one and only home game of the season. Contrary to popular belief, it's not because our season has been an utter disappointment- it just ended up working out that way with our schedules. Regardless of our team not shining like it should, we were very excited to meet up with our friends in Norman.

Blondie!!! Yay!! It had been too long since we've seen each other. I was soooooooo happy to see her! I miss her a ton.

Canuck and Blondie. Such a cute couple.

Pops in his paper bag that he tried to convince Hubby to don as well. Hilarious. It would have made more sense if Brownie had followed through with "Start". It was still funny though.

Yes, Pops and I are the only 2 people left on Earth who still have the Motorola Razrs circa 2005.

Hubby with his brother and dad

2009 Gameday Group

Even though our team is a total failure this year, the pre-game video still gives me chills and makes me remember why I love my OU Sooners so much even though they've disappointed me on a consistent basis this season.

It wouldn't be a sporting event unless one of us eats a hotdog!

Not going to lie...I was more excited to see the Texas A&M band perform at halftime than to see OU play football! I've heard amazing things about the A&M band. For one reason or another, I never got a chance to see when I was attending OU. I'm so glad I got my chance tonight- they were AMAZING. Freaking amazing. After they were done, they received a standing ovation from the entire stadium crowd. I don't think I've even seen our own band receive a standing ovation!! As soon as they were done, we hightailed it out of there...we were winning by a million touchdowns at that point. Plus, it was freezing cold, and Hubby forgot to bring a jacket.

Happy that we won, but happier that we got to spend time with our friends and family. See you in Norman next season!

Quickie Visit

Before the game, we squeezed in a family visit with my brother in law, sister in law, and their crazy kiddos. The littlest kiddo had been in the hospital for most of week due to a MRSA infection :-(. Living in Dallas, we couldn't visit her in the hospital so we made sure we came to visit her as soon as we were back in OKC.

Love that the twins, Kaylie and Mikah, are decked out in their OU gear on gameday! Future Sooners, I just know it!

Pretty Rae. She's healthy and happy again! YAY! It was soooo good to see them all! So fun :-).

Fave Fast Food Fix

Traveling back and forth from Dallas to OKC and Tulsa on the weekends, Hubby and I live on fast food during our road trips home. Our fave fast food joint is Braum's, a regional chain with locations in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Missouri, and Arkansas. Braum's is goooooooood and cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeap. Hubby and I get the same thing every single time, and our total is $12.84!!

We like ketchup. A lot. I used to eat just ketchup sandwiches when I was little. No lie.

Hubby gets the hamburger combo meal with crinkle-cut fries.

I get the chipotle chicken sandwich (crispy chicken breast topped with pepperjack cheese, bacon, grilled onions and peppers, and chipotle mayo) combo meal with crinkle-cut fries.

Both our meal combos come with Braum's famous freshly squeezed cherry limeades. By the way, Braum's cherry limeades could possibly have crack in them because they're so freakin' addicting!

Don't Get it TWISTED!

Back in Deep Ellum two days in a row! After yesterday's piggylicious ways, Poppy wanted a lighter lunch...light to him meant burgers! LOL. Anyways, one of the best burger joints in Dallas is Twisted Root Burger Company. I don't even like burgers, but I love this place...you'll see why towards the end of the post.

Per their website, Twisted Root's philosophy:

Three chefs, sick of eating frozen and factory-fabricated burgers, decided to quit their jobs to open a real burger joint and make everything from scratch. Hand-rolled meat patties, hand-cut Idaho and sweet potatoes, homemade ice-cream, homemade pickles and homemade Root Beer...even homemade ketchup, mustard and BBQ sauce! It’s slap-yo-momma good!

Yep, homemade EVERYTHING! Amazing.

Another major claim to fame...homemade rootbeer with a different flavor everyday! Today's flavor was Butter Pecan! Sweet and yummy!

Instead of a #, they give you a card with a famous person's name on it. If one of the owners is there, he'll actually say the name in that famous person's voice! Hilarious.

Homemade yummyness. Hubby and I are especially obsessed with the ancho chipotle ketchup. Spicy and tangy perfection.

Hubby's lunch: Western Burger with pepperjack, bacon, jalapeno & a big, fat onion ring served with fried green beans and chipotle ranch. He loved it of course. Poppy also got a burger that I forgot to photograph- he loved it too- couldn't stop talking about how deliciously seasoned the burger was.

I got the Gourmet Hot Dog (deep fried 100% Black Angus beef hot dog topped with chopped bacon, cheddar cheese, and chipotle ranch served in a homemade poppy seed hot dog bun) and Twisted fries (handcut seasoned curly fries). Yep, a DEEP FRIED hot dog. Perfection...all of it. You haven't lived until you've tried their curly fries. Actually, you haven't lived until you've eaten at Twisted Root...it's REALLY that good.

Texas BBQ, Top Golf, and Tex Mex

Hubby and I knew that on the top of Poppy's must-do list was to eat at Baker's. He's obsessed with their baked potatoes. Seriously. He talks about them ALL THE TIME.

A beautiful day in Deep Ellum, a neighborhood adjacent to downtown Dallas that is famous for dive bars and great restaurants.

Love the decor/atmosphere of the Deep Ellum location. Usually, we go to the one located on Greenville, but I think we all decided that this one better overall.

Fixings (dill pickles, raw white onions, and pickled jalapenos) from the condiment bar to make any BBQ sammie even better!!

Like always, we all got the "House Special" (chopped brisket sandwich with baked potato). The brisket is always so flavorful and moist. Mmmmm....

Even though the brisket is great, the star of the meal is always the baked potato! Look at that pepper & salt crusted potato skin! AWESOMENESS.

If you don't believe me, just look at how Poppy is!

After lunch, we took Poppy to Top Golf, a double decker driving range in midtown Dallas that features computerized microchips in every golf ball to track your shots' accuracy and distance while awarding points by hitting targets ranging from 20-250 yards away. Imagine golf combined with skee-ball! We knew Poppy would love it, but we had no idea how much WE would love it. Hubby and I detest golf- too slow and boring for our tastes. However, Top Golf made it actually fun for us. All three of us just couldn't get enough!

We were on the 2nd level.

Of course, Poppy totally dominated every game. Hubby's and my goal was to score at least half of what Poppy scored :-).

I think my bewildered head scratch (as pictured above) totally captures our struggles HAHA! At least we had tons of fun though. If you're in the Dallas, Chicago, or Alexandria area, you MUST check out Top Golf!

After Poppy to a couple of golf stores, we headed back home to relax and watch some college football. For dinner, we went to Matt's Rancho Martinez.

Matt's is home to one of the best salsas in Dallas according to Hubby. If you like a spicy hot salsa, Matt's is the place to go! By the way, they have the best chips to go along with the best salsa.

Appetizer: Matt's Fries ("Spicy Hot" grilled fries with onions & fresh jalapenos seasoned with Texas Sprinkle & Black Magic). I have no idea what "Texas Sprinkle" or "Black Magic" is, but I'm suspecting that it's some really awesome seasoned salt and fancy black pepper. Whatever it is, it's AWESOME. Hubby also claims these are his favorite fries EVER- that's quite the bold statement.

My dinner: Pulled pork quesadillas with pico de gallo, pickled jalapenos, and sour cream. By the time I devoured 50% of the fries, I was only able to eat a quarter of the quesadilla! Yummy though. I heart pulled pork. Hubby and Poppy both got some specialty enchiladas which I forgot to photograph, but they both cleaned their plates dry so I'm assuming it was all fantastic.

Matt's Rancho Martinez= Tex Mex Heaven indeed. How hilarious is this picture?!

With our bellies full, we went home to watch yet another heart-wrenching OU loss. Lost to BYU by 1, lost to Miami by 1, lost to Texas by 3, and lost to Nebraska by 3. In other words, we're 8+ points away from being unbeaten. Instead, we're a pitiful 5-4. Seriously, can the 2010 season come soon enough?! I'm so ready for this season to be over and permanently erased from my memory.
